Biodegradable Erosion Mats

100% biodegradable organic jute fibres needle punched onto a hessian backing to form a blanket of mulch. Jutemat is recommended as a weed barrier, by preventing vegetation growth. It allows water and air to pass through allowing the soil to breathe which promotes the grow of desired plants. It also reduces water evaporation and has a light brown colour which blends in to most environments.

100% biodegradable jute netting ideal for basic erosion protection but allowing growth of vegetation through its 20-30mm apertures. It is ideal for spray seed and spray bituminous applications such as slopes and swale drains.

Biodegradable Products used to Stabilise Waterways and Embankments
TEC Mat™ Coir is a natural fibre matting made from 100% natural coconut fibre that is spun and woven into a matting available in various grades. TEC Mat™ Coir is an open weave geotextile that is fully biodegradable adding organic matter to the soil. As coir is an abundant and renewable resource, TEC Mat™ Coir provides a range of environmentally friendly products that are widely used in civil engineering and for land and slope stabilisation applications. When vegetated, it has the mechanical strength necessary to hold soil in place and prevent erosion. The coir netting breaks up runoff from heavy rains and dissipates the energy of flowing water and wind. TEC Mat™ Coir also promotes the growth of new vegetation by absorbing water and preventing the topsoil from drying out.

EcoLog™ are coir logs made from 100% natural coconut fibre compacted into an outer mesh of bristle coir twine. They incorporate biological, ecological and engineering aspects of erosion control into their design, producing a structure, that when vegetated, controls shoreline and streambank erosion. EcoLog™ are fully biodegradable within 5-10 years, decomposing into a natural medium that promotes plant growth. As this happens a well established root system develops that will blend into aquatic environments and successfully hold banks and shorelines in place and help prevent further erosion by diminishing the force of waves and stream flow. This is why vegetating is recommended. Once wetland plants are established, EcoLog™ also provide a natural habitat for wildlife.

Permanent Erosion Mats

The TerraMat™ ECP-2 is made with uniformly distributed 100% green polypropylene fiber and two heavy weight polypropylene nets securely sewn together with UV stabilized thread. The tightly compressed blankets are placed inside vented bags and include a product label, code and installation guide. The blankets are palletized for easy transportation.

TerraStop™ Geocell is a 3 dimensional expandable cellular confinement system of various depths made from HDPE. It is used to confine various infill’s and provide stability on slopes and channels.

Once expanded to its maximum extension and filled in with soil the structure becomes inextensible and monolithic, providing an effective means of confinement for unconsolidated materials lying within single cells and preventing their movement even on steep slopes, or also from substantial dragging forces such as those exerted by hydraulic currents.

The cellular structure is therefore particularly useful on arid, rocky or impermeable soils where vegetation is almost or totally lacking.

Utilizing TERRASTOP™ Geocells, it’s possible to confine on steep slopes a topsoil layer (up to 200 mm) allowing planting of the escarpment with high degree of confidence and success.

Case Study: TerraStop Geocell


Bunkerliner is a three dimensional geogynthetic confinement system designed to reduce erosion of thin layers of sand on steep inclines and to allow the free passage of water while filtering fines. Constructed from UV Stable Black Polypropylene fibre needle punched on a reinforcing scrim. The scrin provides the stabiity to the Bunkerliner while the open matrix of the fibre placment, trap and stabilise the granules.

TerraStop™ Gabions & Mattresses are typically heavily galvanized, hexagonal steel-wire mesh cages. Units are either zinc galvanised or additionally PVC coated to ensure extra durability within the surrounding environment.

However, a more superior coating is also available in severe corrosive conditions such as in marine environments. The development of a Zinc + 5% Aluminium alloy known as Aluzinc is the next step in the fight against steel corrosion. This can also have an additional PVC coating on the Aluzinc alloy for Ultimate Durability.

TerraStop™ Gabions & Mattresses create flexible, durable and permanent structures that resist erosive forces. In structural applications, mass gravity gabion walls can resist significant earth pressures that cause overturning, and in architectural applications, select gabion rock infill coupled with quality workmanship can produce an aesthetically pleasing gabion wall that blends in with the natural environment.
